The Exorcist TV Series.....not as Bad As I Thought.
So months ago I saw the preview to the Fox Television series The
Exorcist, which was taken from the original 1973 classic. I thought
this was going to bomb.
I was wrong.

Not only has this series held my attention since the first episode, an
exciting new twist has arisen in episode 5 which aired this past
Friday. I was absolutely shocked. The mother of the possessed girl
that Father Tomas and Father Marcus is trying to help has turned out
to be non other than Regan McNeil, the girl Linda Blair played in the
original film. She had changed her name and built a new life for
herself to escape her past. She even disappeared from her mother as
well because she was constantly being haunted by the memories of that
terrible episode which had made audiences gasp, shake and run to the
confessionals back in 1973.

What's interesting to me was the parallel of the case that the
original William Peter Blatty novel was based on. The Exorcist was
based on the case of a young boy pseudo named Robby back in Maryland
1949. The Exorcism lasted for months and after all the media
attention died down after the ritual the family moved away. Robby's
name was never disclosed to the public. Even now the young lad....a
much older man now....has not revealed himself and is living an normal
life like everyone else. It is that discretion that young Regan
sought as well, building a different life, having married and bore two
daughters. The deal here is also that the demon has now possessed
Casey, one of her daughters, with the clear aim to take Regan again.
This was such a shock to me that I bought it all hook line and sinker.
What a twist!
Now that we know who Angela is....Regan's pseudo name....we know also
that the demon must be Pazzuzu....as referred to in the novel and the
defunct sequel film Exorcist 2 the Heretic. We also know that Regan
is not the only one in the demon's bullseye. The Pope is arriving in
Chicago in a few days and the series of mass killings happening in
different parts of town are but a warning of what's to come. I
believe the only thing that's in Pazuzzu's way is the kick ass
exorcist Father Marcus. He. Does not. Play.
We're in for a huge battle folks. And now that Casey has killed those
EMTs who were taking her to the hospital after the ritual and has run
off into the night, who knows what's going to take place now. Our
characters in this series are now in a desperate race to save Casey,
Regan, and quite possibly the Pope himself. Father Tomas is two weak
now that he has gone Thorn Birds on us with his old flame. But Father
Marcus must take a stand now to save this family from demonic
oppression, possession and destruction, not to mention to keep the
Holy Father safe.
The storyline is solid. The connections to the original film are
phenomenal. The writing is great. Character development rocks.
We're heading to a new era of spiritual warfare films and television
and even though the original film remains the king of all horror
movies, this series takes us back to what made our hair stand on ends.
I know my hair did.
