The Haunting of Helena A Review (SPOILERS)

Image
Filmed in Italy and released in 2012, The Haunting of Helena has turned out to be a basic cliqued ghost film. I watched it on Netflix late one night last week, and needless to say I slept like a baby that night. The film is about a recently divorced woman and her daughter Helena, who, after having recovered from a near tragic car accident, have begun to experience supernatural phenomena in the form of a woman who died in the days of Benito Mussolini’s fascist dictatorship at the hands of her husband. The story seems to be that the husband, in a jealous rage, ripped out all her teeth and left her to die in a closet that still exists in the apartment. This ghost apparently seems to be seeking out the teeth her husband ripped out. After scaring the living crap out of Helena and her mom, they run out of there and spend the next 18 months in a hospital where Helena has not spoken. Then the ghost shows up there to start her business again. After various horror scenes with raining teeth a...

Deliver Us From Evil, a preview review!

Image
Yep....another demon possesion movie! Just when you have had enough of this stuff, the detailed and well written book by Police Officer/Demonologist Ralph Sarchie from my good old home town of NYC originally entitled "Beware The Night" has been hollywoodized into this creepy spin based on his cases with what he calls "The Demonic". The preview above speaks for itself about the plot of the story....Ralph, a NYPD officer, starts to get cases here in the Bronx about some people who are apparently possessed by a demon or demons. I can already tell how far this is from the book and that the book is more real than this. In this film it appears that Ralph is portrayed as a regular police officer who is skeptical and doubtful about something spiritual going on....that of course changes throughout the film as his own family start to become victims of supernatural forces beyond his control. Needless to say, the real Ralph Sarchie, based on the book, was not a skeptic ...

Delivery, The Beast Within, Doesn't Deliver-A Review

Image
M When you want to make a horror film, you need to have within it a sense of not just suspense, but overall fright at the climax. Delivery: The Beast Within did not deliver. Why? Because it didn’t really give you an anchor to hold to with the film. The Exorcist had a point. The Omen had a point. Rosemary’s Baby had a point. The Amytiville Horror had a point. Paranormal Activity even has a point. With this film, what’s the point? I’m gonna go with a Spoiler Alert on this one so if you want to find out for yourself what this film is, I would stop reading now. Still here? Okay, good. Let’s get going. Hand held camera footage all the way, it begins with the production setup of a reality TV series tracing a loving couple’s journey of preparing for their new bundle of joy. Everything you know how a reality show is shown on TV, this gives you the same feel. I was impressed. I had yet to see a horror film take it from that angle so Kudos to that concept. But from there, things start...

Preview Review on Delivery-The Beast Within

Image
Well....talk about Rosemary's Baby on Krack.... This movie is actually not rated, said to have already been released on May 30th, yet I can't find it anywhere. It's clear it's another one of those found footage films but with the twist that it's actually one of those reality shows...like those people that buy homes on TV that they can't afford....(oops sorry, my bad...) In any case apparently the unborn child here is either possesed by a demon or something or is the Antichrist Himself. In any case reviews have been decent on this film. It seems to be more independent due to it's non rating, so that alone says something about it. What do you think about the trailer? Is it promising? Does it suck? Comment below and share your thoughts on it. Once Vic and I watch it, we'll give you our honest thoughts on it....coffee and popcorn in hand.

The Antichrist and Cinema

Image
Wisdom is needed here; one who understands can calculate the number of the Beast, for it is a number that stands for a person. His number is six hundred and sixty-six. -Book of Revelation, Chapter 13 verse 18. This is probably the most infamous quote from the Biblical New Testament. This is also one of the most famous quotes from the world of cinema. Throughout the years Hollywood has capitalized on the two thousand year old concept of what Christians worldwide call The Antichrist. Why? Because it’s fascinating, creepy, and makes for good horror film material. There have been various depictions of the Antichrist on film throughout the decades. The idea is usually that he is Satan’s son (though the New Testament never specifically refers to him as such…) and that he is born in the world to take over it and destroy the human race. There has been no series of films which has portrayed this in a more scary fashion than the Omen films. Beginning with The Omen in 1976 ...

Oculus- Horror or Thriller? Reality vs Fantasy?

Image
As you all know, I’m a supernatural kind of horror movie guy. I enjoy the gory slasher films too. Its just that something about the supernatural intrigues me….it’s a sense of the unknown that can terrify a person to no end. This is the essence of terror. This is what I left with the film I just saw this past week. Oculus is a supernatural horror film centered around two people…a brother and a sister who have been through a traumatic experience as children. They were witness to the deaths of their parents and it all seemed to center around an old antique mirror which was in good ol’ Dad’s den. After the murders the kids were separated and the son sent to an institution. The girl moves on but still struggles with her past. Eleven years later, Tim is deemed fit to reenter society and is released to his sister Kaliye. Little did he know that Kaylie has been busy while he was away. Using high tech instruments, computers and seriously heavy research, Kaliye brings her brother and the mirr...

Paranormal Activity The Marked Ones...This one is a bit different....

Image
Well, I saw it with my wife last Saturday, and I have to say right off the bat that its not like the previous two. I’ve come across people who have started confusing the films and for good reason….they’ve been redundant in their delivery…First everything is okay, then things start to go bump in the night…then things get crazy with people being dragged around all over the place, followed by full possession by the demon. This was how it was even in the second film, which I liked due to it’s connection with the first film…..I like how things get explained and made clear. This is what Paranormal Activity, The Marked Ones did for me….it made things more clear, yet keeping the questions going. Essentially this is a story very character driven. It involves a young Latino guy named Jesse, just graduated from high school, and his friend enjoying a well earned summer vacation. Jesse has a neighbor downstairs who is regarded as ‘strange’….a lady who does things in secret and whom over the co...
